1st Spring Term 2019
English - We will be writing epic fantasy stories a la The Hobbit as our first unit of work. This will be followed by a poem called Ambition which consolidates the children's understanding of modal verbs. Our final piece will be a non-chronological report on microorganisms and how to prevent our food being contaminated by them!
Spellings – Spellings are handed out every Monday; the children will be tested on these spellings on a Friday.
Maths – This half term, we will mainly be focusing on percentages and fractions. In the final week, the subject of ratio and proportion will be under study.
Topic – For our new topic, we will asking the question "Are there any good germs?" That means plenty of Science, a look back at some famous scientists in history and some cross-curricular writing (see English).
Homework – Homework is handed out every Friday and is due back by the following Monday. Normally, it will consist of Maths and English (activities taken from a variety of CGP books which the children are expected to take care of); however, once every half term, the children will be set a Learning Log Challenge to complete. (They will be given 2 weeks to complete it and hand it back in – dates for completion are given out at the same time as the challenge)
Reading – Children are expected to read every night. This could consist of their school reading book or reading material from home. Please would you sign their reading record book when you hear them read.
PE – Our PE day is Monday. Please ensure that your child has a PE kit which consists of: white t-shirt, black shorts/leggings/joggers and pumps/trainers.
