1st Spring Term 2019
This half term our topic is Superheroes. We will be exploring Superheroes and their superpowers, as well as learning about real life heroes such as doctors and nurses. We will be reading a range of fiction and non-fiction texts, including How to Save a Superhero by Caryl Hart and Super Duck by Jez Alborough. In mathematics we are learning how to find one more and one less than a number gradually moving on to addition and subtraction within 10.
This half term (Spring 2) our topic is Food and Farming. We are very excited about creating our own vegetable patch in the EYFS outdoor area, to link with our topic. We will be having special visits into school to help us to learn about life cycles, we are expecting eggs that will hatch into duckling and caterpillars that will become butterflies. We will be reading texts including Farmer Duck by Martin Waddell and A Squash and A squeeze by Julia Donaldson, as well as some non-fiction texts. In mathematics we will be learning about doubling and halving. We will learn that halving is sharing something equally, making two equal amounts.
Reception will be going on a trip to Smithills Farm on Wednesday 27th March.
All children will be expected to wear school uniform, sensible footwear and a waterproof jacket. If your child routinely brings a packed lunch to school, on the day of the trip this will need to be in a labelled carrier bag.
We will be holding a Mother’s Day Breakfast on Friday 29th March. This is for one special female relative per child and will involve lots of fun craft activities.
We will be having two Easter Bonnet Parades this year, one on Wednesday 3rd April and the other on Friday 5th April. Unfortunately, we will not be able to change your tickets for the performance dates once they have been allocated.
